CASE STUDY-1

It's a craft called cage lamp and comes from Europe. The craftsman starts by weaving a metal cage. Then molten glass is placed in it and blown. As the glass expands, it creates different textures and shapes due to the constraints of the metal cage.

I first saw it in an Italian restaurant in London. It inspired me. Would it make a difference if the cage was replaced with another material? For example if it was a wooden cage, could the wood just burn out from the heat of the glass?

Would a similar effect be achieved if the cage was replaced with ceramic? Would the ceramic be able to withstand this instantaneous heat? Is it necessary to preheat the ceramic beforehand? Would the subsequent tempering process be different?
