THE POURING METAL PROCESS
07 FEB 2023
A metal furnace can melt ten kilograms of metal at a time, and although neither aluminum nor bronze has a melting point above 1000°, each melting also requires about half an hour of continuous heating.
This was my first hands-on experience of the metal pouring process. We first wet the sand and bury the mold in the soil. This step is to secure the mold, but to prevent the outgoing metal from causing harm to people or the workplace.
Due to the dangerous nature of the process, students are not allowed to participate in the entire pouring process. But just standing on the sidelines, you can feel the heat coming from the furnace, and it's hard to imagine how energy-consuming this is. I can also feel the hard-won work every time I pour it.
